It’s Your Race, You Can’t Lose It.
Hi Friends!
I wish I could tell you I won this contest I was in, but I can’t. I was a quarterfinaist, but I didn’t win.
I wish I could tell you that I wrote and published my book six years ago, but I can’t. I had the idea almost 7 years ago, and hemmed and hawed and thought to myself over and over, who will want to read it? Turns out, a lot of people want to read it and are loving it.
I wish I could tell you that I beat back the difficulty of being a wife, a mother and a friend all at the same time and didn’t lose some friends, but I can’t. I am in therapy for that one, it’s an ongoing battle and it’s good some days and bad others.
Are you like me, wishing you further along in this race? More letters behind your name, more titles, more accolades?
Why is it, that we never feel like we are enough? We keep moving the line. Wife, mother, friend, aunt, coworker, colleague, friend. We are humans, living life, ongoingly, and with stumbles and falls and some triumphs as well. Any time we click on a social media post where someone is celebrating something, we feel compelled to compare and that’s just wrong. I think it has something to do with thinking we are all in a race together, and if you are ahead of me, that must mean you are winning and I am losing, right?
WRONG.
We are all in our own race, some of us walking, some of us running, some of us rolling in wheelchairs rolling to that finish, and it simply takes us as long as it takes us to get “THERE” and newsflash, folks,
“THERE” is not a one-size fits all. In fact, your middle, might be someone else’s finish line. Their finish line might be your starting point, there are so many different ways to go through life, and not one is better than another, unless of course it’s filled with hate or criticism, that’s no way to live.
My dear reader, please know that you and your race are YOURS. No one else knows what it is like inside YOUR body today as you walk, run, trudge or hobble to the next checkpoint. Stop juding yourself by other people. They don’t have your life, your ability, your words, your thoughts, your feelings. They are running THEIR race, and you are running yours, whatever that looks like.
The next time you are tempted to say, I am not enough, I want you to remember.

It’s Your Race. You Can’t Lose It
So what if it takes you a little longer to get there, maybe you needed to rest and take a drink of water or get something to eat. After all, Rest is a Right, it’s not something you earn.
Maybe you needed to change your shoes, maybe just maybe you were running in the wrong direction, so you realized it, and turned around. Maybe like me, you decided that a marathon wasn’t a goal you wanted to pursue any longer, so you stuck with the 5K version. Life is going to life, and it may just be that a 5K is what you want to do, and there are lots of programs to support an incremental journey to that goal.
None of these are bad choices, just choices. You can change your mind, change your direction and decide even run another race, that’s okay.
Just remember, You are the only runner in your race, you can’t lose. So go ahead, and take a little longer, or go faster if you want to, and don’t forget that victory lap!
